What is this drug?

Secnidazole is an antibiotic that kills certain bacteria and parasites in your body by damaging their DNA so they cannot survive or multiply. It is similar to metronidazole (Flagyl) but works longer, so you usually only need a single dose.

What is it used for?

Stomach infections (amoeba)diarrhea caused by parasitesbacterial vaginosis (vaginal infection with discharge and odour)giardia infectiongut infectionsand sometimes used alongside other drugs for H. pylori (the bacteria that causes stomach ulcer)
