Chlorphenamine (also called chlorpheniramine) is an antihistamine that works by blocking a natural substance called histamine in your body, which is responsible for causing allergic reactions like sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.
Blocks H1 histamine receptors on mast cells, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle, thereby reducing histamine-mediated vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and smooth muscle contraction that characterize allergic responses. Also possesses anticholinergic and sedative properties that contribute to symptomatic relief of allergic manifestations.

Adults should take 1 tablet (4 mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 6 tablets (24 mg) in 24 hours. You can take it with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. Be aware that this drug will likely make you feel sleepy, so avoid taking it when you need to drive or operate machinery.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
This drug makes you very sleepy — do not drive, ride okada, or operate machinery after taking it. Sleeping tablets or sedatives (like diazepam) — combining them with chlorphenamine can cause extreme sleepiness. Other antihistamines (like cetirizine or loratadine) — do not take them together as this increases the risk of side effects.
