This is a combination antacid and reflux remedy. Sodium alginate forms a protective raft (like a floating barrier) on top of your stomach contents to stop acid from rising into your throat, while sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate quickly neutralize excess stomach acid to give you fast relief.
Neutralizes gastric acid by binding hydrogen ions through chemical reactions; sodium alginate additionally forms a viscous gel that floats on gastric contents, creating a physical barrier against reflux into the oesophagus.

For the liquid (like Gaviscon Double Action), adults should take 10-20 mL (about 2-4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime. Shake the bottle well before use. You can take it up to 4 times a day. It works best when taken shortly after eating. Do not take more than 80 mL in 24 hours.
This medicine is taken only when you feel symptoms like heartburn or acid reflux, so there is no strict dosing schedule. Simply take it next time you feel discomfort. Do not double up the dose.

This medicine can reduce how well other medicines work if taken at the same time — wait at least 2 hours before or after taking other medications, especially antibiotics like ciprofloxacin or tetracycline.
