Combination Antifungal and Antibiotic
Last reviewed June 2026
Who is this for?
This is a combination medicine containing three active ingredients — Nystatin (an antifungal), Neomycin (an antibiotic), and Polymyxin B (another antibiotic) — that work together to fight fungal and bacterial infections in the vaginal area. It is available in Nigeria as Chi Gynocare Vaginal Ovules.
Nystatin binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity and causing cell leakage; while Neomycin and Polymyxin B inhibit bacterial protein synthesis and disrupt bacterial cell wall/membrane integrity respectively, providing broad-spectrum coverage against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.

Insert one vaginal ovule (pessary) deep into the vagina at bedtime, usually once daily for 14 days or as your doctor directs. Wash your hands before and after insertion. Lie down after inserting to prevent the ovule from slipping out. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve before the days are up.
If you forget to insert your ovule at bedtime, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Do not use two ovules at once to make up for a missed dose.
Important for antibiotics
Always complete the full course even if you feel better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and become drug-resistant.
Complete the full course of treatment even if your symptoms disappear early — stopping too soon can cause the infection to return. Do not buy from roadside sellers or unregistered pharmacies as storage conditions matter for this product. Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment or use protection, and do not share this medication with anyone else.
Avoid using other vaginal creams, pessaries, or douches at the same time unless your doctor says so. If you are using latex condoms or diaphragms, note that vaginal ovules may weaken them and reduce their effectiveness. Let your doctor know if you are taking any other antibiotics by mouth.
